We also have a best decks tier list for LoR and an agent tier list for Valorant.

Methodology TLDR:

  • Our first tier list aimed at lower ELO, specifically Bronze up to high Plat/low Diamond. Our second tier list is for high ELO, aimed at Diamond 2 and above.
  • Our experts curate these picks and are an indicator of the champion’s inherent strength when played at the highest level. For many of the user base, this information isn’t super relevant for their games but provides invaluable insight into the game itself.

Let’s say you’re debating between learning and climbing with Jax (A-tier | Simple) or Rengar (A-tier | Severe) – you’re going to want to go with Jax. Why? This is because Jax has a lower skill floor and would require less games to play at an A-Tier level in solo Queue. If you tried to pick up Rengar, you wouldn’t get the full value of A-tier until after about 15 matches of practice whereas with Jax, you would get that full 15 every time you play him.

Expert pick commentary

To see all the explanations for our expert picks and more, head to our tier list feature!

LoL Tier List feature example

Top – Volibear

  • Volibear is a seriously strong carry in the top lane right now, with his Rod of Ages and Navori Flickerblade build helping him rise back into those top tiers.
  • Voli is a strong early game skirmisher with solid damage and once he gets a lead he can start diving and snowballing exceptionally quickly, so give him a go if you haven’t already.

Jungle – Shaco

  • Shaco has been terrorizing games for a very long time but in recent weeks he’s really popped back up as a more than viable pick to carry games with.
  • His early clear helps him gank faster than most junglers and this means he can start snowballing incredibly quickly.
  • Whether you build him full AD with Profrane Hydra into Cyclosword OR if you prefer to build him AP, either way, he’s a super strong S pick to play this patch.

Mid – Brand

  • Brand has had an amazing year all season so far and this doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon with no nerfs on the way.
  • Brand has been a fantastic pick in various roles but it’s the mid lane where he’s been seeing the most amount of success. His waveclear, poke and ability to bully lanes is just so hard to play against, so if you enjoy Brand, keep abusing him whilst you still can!

Bottom – Jinx

  • Jinx remains one of the strongest AD Carries in the game with no nerfs in patch 14.12.
  • She’s one of the most popular champions in the game and can pretty much be played into any draft and team comp, and if you get ahead sooner rather than later you’ll be resetting your way through teams and melting them down in no time at all.
  • There’s very few late game picks that can carry harder than a good Jinx and right now, she’s at her best.

Support – Nami

  • Nami’s recent buffs have boosted her straight back into the S tier and this versatile, jack of all trades support is proving there’s here to stay.
  • Nami is the perfect pick with so many different bot lane picks, from famous synergies like Lucian, to alternative picks like Brand, she just brings so much to the table with her buffs and boosts and solid CC too.

Top – Jax

  • Jax has been an S tier high elo pick in the top lane all season so far and this isn’t going to change any time soon.
  • Jax is a splitpushing dueling machine but also a fantastic engaging teamfighter too, with his ability to dive onto backlines, lock them up, and burst them down without too much trouble.
  • There’s not many champions in the game that can run away with games as quickly as Jax, so if you know what you’re doing, just keep playing him!

Jungle – Karthus

  • Karthus rose up to the top tiers in the jungle when Split 2 first went live and he’s proving he’s not planning to go away any time soon with his exceptional clears, impressive damage and insane scaling.
  • If you’re good enough to optimize your farm and still have some impact in the game, you will carry so easily when playing this champion as you will just spike super quickly and deal an absolutely crazy amount of damage.

Mid – Tristana

  • Tristana is a serious problem in the mid lane in high elo and is one of the most contested picks in the game with her ability to dominate lanes with her early game damage and melt through turret plates super quickly.
  • She has the ability to amass a huge advantage through early kills or just structural damage, and once she gets that lead she starts one shotting anybody who tries to stop her!
  • There’s a reason her ban and pick rate is so high and we just don’t think this will stop any time soon.

Bottom – Kai’sa

  • Kai’Sa is currently the most popular AD Carry at higher ranks right now and it’s not hard to understand why. She’s a fantastic blind pick, she works into all kinds of comps and drafts and always has a way to get a lead and use that lead to 1v9.
  • She excels with both enchanters and engaging supports too, with famous combos like Kai’Sa and Rell or Nautilus being exceptionally hard to beat, with the Statikk Shiv build path changes this patch she’s only going to get stronger, so give her a go!

Support – Rell

  • Rell is one of those champions you always forget about, but every time you see her you are reminded of just how strong she actually is.
  • She has incredibly early engage and CC and can easily start dominating and diving bot lanes once she’s in the lead. She then translates into an initiating teamfighting monster throughout the course of the game and starts farming LP pretty damn easily!

Disclaimer #1: If a champion isn’t on our LoL Tier List, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t climb with them. You’ll just have to put in more effort to get similar results as our Optimal, Great, and Good choices for climbing.
Disclaimer #2: This list is meant to evaluate the champions that we believe are best for climbing Solo Queue. Although there can certainly be some overlap, we are NOT looking to name the champions that are the best in pro-play or organized, competitive 5-on-5. This is why champs that require a ton of team coordination such as Ryze, may not be included or ranked highly.

As always, we welcome all discussion and feedback.
